A UK consumer study has uncovered serious misunderstandings about what ‘organic’ food is, with one in four people admitting confusion and one in five believing organic food is lower in fat, according to FoodNavigator.com. According to UK’s Organic Trade Board (OTB) findings, 83% of Britons buy organic food, dispelling the common belief that organic food is confined to the minority. Although organic food and drink overall are estimated to account for only around 2% of the value of the total grocery market, organic baby and toddler foods have achieved a leading 45% share of the total branded baby foods market, the survey says. UK importers say have been struggling since almost the beginning of the year to keep customers supplied across all salad lines, as well as try and break even themselves.
