Topic “Nissan” — Exporter Magazine
Nearly three decades ago, Nissan Motor Co. phased out the Datsun brand that had built a following around the world among buyers of small, inexpensive and sporty cars. Now, it is thinking of bringing it back, according to the Wall Street Journal. Toyota closed 12 plants, a spokeswoman said. Its profit will be cut by ¥6 billion ($AUD73 million or NZD$99.6 million) for each day of lost operations. Nissan and Honda could each lose ¥2 billion a day after closing plants, Goldman Sachs estimates. Sony and Toshiba have also shut plants.
The six planned models will expand Toyota’s hybrid engine range of vehicles that run on petrol and electricity at a time when rivals such as Nissan are developing all-electric vehicles.
