High Street chain Argos is suing A P Moller-Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company, for more than USD$13 million (NZD$18 million), according to the Independent. Danish carrier Maersk Line has told customers it is getting ready to levy a surcharge of US$750 (NZ$ 1,079) per TEU and a $1,000 per FEU as well as a $1,200 per 40-foot high cube surcharge on Asia-to-north Europe from July 15, citing space constraints and equipment shortages, according to the Shipping Gazette. International shipping giant Maersk says it will continue to ship orange roughy caught legally in New Zealand waters while conducting a policy review on sustainable fisheries. On-time performance by global carriers in the last quarter of 2009 significantly worsened from the first half of the year. From a high of nearly 68% in the second quarter of 2009, carriers were on time only 53% of the time in the last quarter, AmericanShipper.com says, citing research by London-based Drewry. AP MOLLER-Maersk CEO Nils Andersen has been quoted as saying the recent recovery in container shipping is simply a result of an inventory swing, and rates need to be higher before carriers can commit to capacity expansion. feed-2062973
