Amazon.com has taken the wraps off its long-awaited “Kindle Fire”, tacking on a mass market-friendly $US199 ($204) price tag that poses a serious threat to the dominance of Apple’s two-year-old iPad, according to a Reuters report carried in the Sydney Morning Herald. Production may start as early as January, with an introduction to the public by February or March, the report said, quoting Mike Abramsky, an analyst with RBC Capital Markets in Toronto. India is among the three countries in the world where Samsung is launching Galaxy Tab first. The device is powered by Android Froyo, the latest version of Google’s operating software for mobile devices, according to Times of India. Research In Motion (RIM) unveiled a tablet computer aimed at its core business customers, as it tries to gain a foothold in a fast-growing market dominated by Apple’s iPad, according to a Reuters report carried by GulfNews.com. Samsung is expected to announce shortly that it will offer its seven-inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab, to Australia’s Telstra customers on a plan at a vast reduction on the $1000 it retails at, competiting headon with Apple’s iPad.
