China Construction Bank NZ backs Kiwi exporters — Exporter Magazine
Kiwi exporters to China stand to benefit from the local financial expertise of China Construction Bank New Zealand. What’s more, New Zealand is well positioned to benefit from what is happening in China right now according to Group Board Director Dr Murray Horn.
Dr Horn believes the Chinese economy provides an incredibly exciting opportunity for New Zealand export businesses. “China is a massive economy and even though their growth is slowing, it is still sitting at 7% per annum. New Zealand has had a Free Trade Agreement with China since 2008 and has benefited enormously from rapid growth in trade and tourism with China. There is a strong interest in further developing two-way trade, tourism and investment.”
Registered in New Zealand by the Reserve Bank in 2014, China Construction Bank’s 15,000 branches and 280,000 staff service a growing client base of over 300 million customers in 21 countries around the world.
“China Construction Bank offers NZ businesses who are trading or want to trade in China the opportunity to do so much more efficiently. As the second largest bank in China, CCB has comprehensive coverage of the China market and can facilitate transactions with less risk and less delay. And by deliberately hiring a local team in NZ, the Bank better understands its local clients and is better able to communicate those clients’ needs and how the Bank is likely to assess risk. That makes doing business with China a lot easier.” says Dr Horn.
New Zealand has had a close relationship with CCB at the highest levels for some time now. Former Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley served as an independent director for China Construction Bank for 6 years and is now the Chairman of China Construction Bank New Zealand. Dr Murray Horn’s appointment to the China Construction Bank Group Board has enabled him to share Australasia’s experience of a deregulated banking environment, at a time when China is facing the deregulation of its own banking sector.
China Construction Bank New Zealand provides a two directional customer proposition, supporting New Zealand businesses doing business with or in China and following China’s people, trade and investment into New Zealand.
A key speaker at Export NZ’s upcoming Go Global event at Eden Park Stadium on 14 May, Dr Horn is encouraging New Zealand businesses to make the most of the opportunity to do business with China. Sitting alongside Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom, New Zealand is one of just 20 countries with on the ground experts in Chinese banking, business and custom to support and assist our export sector to succeed in China.
“China Construction Bank is expanding very quickly internationally. Kiwis need to take advantage of the fact that New Zealand has played a key part in the early push.”
