Christchurch-based exporter AuCom Electronics is capitalising on considerable commercial opportunities in the European and Middle East markets with the formation of a subsidiary company called AuCom Motor Control Systems (AuCom MCS), based in Sendenhorst, Germany. The new company has already secured a $NZD4 million contract to provide services and equipment for the control of water pumps in a district cooling system in the city of Lusail, Qatar. When completed it will be one of the largest schemes of its type in the world, supplying chilled water to users throughout the city.

“For many years we’ve been selling our low voltage soft starter products into these markets through our distribution partners, and our customised medium voltage solutions direct. We saw an opportunity to further develop our medium voltage business, providing a higher level of service for larger projects like the one in Qatar.” said AuCom CEO Brent Archer, in announcing the venture.

AuCom MCS gives the company substantial on the ground expertise in Europe and the Middle East, as well as manufacturing capability, said Mr Archer, “this enables us to respond to new opportunities quickly, and provide greater support to our medium voltage customers in these regions.” As well as the project in Lusail, Mr Archer said the joint venture is pitching for five large projects related to cooling of the football stadiums being used in Qatar during the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Experienced German motor control specialist Joerg Westhoff is Managing Director of AuCom MCS. He heads a team with extensive experience, technical expertise and a strong industry network. “We are delighted to be involved with AuCom, they have built a strong reputation in our market over many years. They are known for the quality of their soft start technology and their straightforward approach to business.”
