The dairy demand from developing countries such as China and India is sustainable, underpinned by a rising middle class in these countries, Fonterra chairman Henry van der Heyden told the Irish Independent. Dairyland Products has been given resource consent for its proposed milk drying plant following the Waikato Regional Council’s relatively speedy 15-day green light for the project south of the town, according to the Stuff.co.nz/Waikato Times. The move to the new location is part of Fonterra’s strategic decision to focus on building its value-added and specialty ingredients portfolio in Europe.Previously the European arm of the New Zealand dairy had focused on imported cheese and butter.
